More summer fun

This past Tuesday night at the Loeb Boathouse in Central Park, the Skin Cancer Foundation held its inaugural gala. The Skin Cancer Foundation is a newer force in New York philanthropy. It was started by two accomplished businesswomen, Mindy Gorman and Elizabeth Robins.

Ms. Gorman lost her husband Stuart to melanoma. In order to keep his spirit alive, she and her children started the Live, Love and Laugh Foundation to fund melanoma research. Ms. Robins grew up the daughter of Perry Robins MD who started the Skin Cancer Foundation. Today she is taking leadership of the only international organization solely devoted to fighting skin cancer, the world’s most common cancer, now occurring at epidemic levels. Take heed.

The event committee included: Diane Ackley; Anne Akers; Erika Balfour, MD; Maribeth Chitkara, MD; Leena Gurevich; Cheryl Karcher, MD; Ellen Leikind; Séverine Manuel; Sharon Marantz Walsh; Scott Neher; Tony Ocasio Esq.; Sue Phillips; Dr. Marcia Robbins-Wilf; César Sanchez; Deborah S. Sarnoff, MD; and Ian Shapolsky.

Held in a marvelous venue, it was a delightful evening filled with good friends, poker, martinis, and fabulous auction prizes. DJ David Manuel and GQ Taiwan’s fashion photographer, Chiun-Kai Shih generously volunteered their services.
